Green technology company Nuvve Holding Corp. (Nuvve) and battery technology company Romeo Power Inc. (Romeo Power) are partnering to integrate communication protocols between Nuvve's vehicle-to-grid (V2G) platform and Romeo Power's battery management system (BMS).

The integration is designed to enable Romeo Power’s battery systems to become V2G compatible, regardless of the commercial vehicle platform, according to a news release from Nuvve.

Nuvve's V2G technology will reportedly allow excess energy from Romeo Power battery packs in parked electric vehicles (EVs) to be collected, stored, and shared to optimize grid stability. The platform also accounts for energy flow on both the vehicle and charging station sides, which is expected to help mitigate battery degradation, according to Nuvve. Additionally, Romeo Power expects to be able to monitor and measure specific data related to battery life.

The collaboration between Nuvve and Romeo Power, according to the green technology company, will help support the broad EV ecosystem, including OEMs, charging station manufacturers, and other technology providers to help lower the total cost of ownership for EV fleet managers and accelerate the advancement of EV adoption. The companies also expect to share their data with OEM partners, which could lead to more cost-effective battery warranties, according to Nuvve.

"We are committed to working collaboratively with industry leaders within the battery ecosystem to maximize benefits to our customers as they pursue extended battery range, safety, and reliability," said Romeo Power CEO Lionel Selwood Jr.

“Ultimately, we need innovation across the transportation and energy industries to create a zero-carbon world,” added Gregory Poilasne, chairman and CEO of Nuvve.

Last month, Nuvve teamed up with private equity firm Stonepeak Partners LP to launch a new joint venture, called Levo Mobility, to help accelerate the deployment of EVs. The joint venture will use Nuvve’s V2G technology to help support EV adoption, including thousands of electric school buses nationwide, through V2G hubs and Transportation-as-a-Service.
