Navistar reveals new engine emission technology
The manufacturer will introduce a next-generation clean engine solution to meet the 2010 EPA emissions regulations and to position the company to meet greenhouse gas rules ahead of 2014 and 2017 requirements, officials announce. LISLE, Ill. — Navistar International Corp. will introduce a next-generation clean engine solution to meet the 2010 EPA emissions regulations and to position the company to meet greenhouse gas rules ahead of 2014 and 2017 requirements, company officials said on Friday.
Navistar's In-Cylinder Technology Plus (ICT+) combines advanced in-cylinder engine technology with urea-based aftertreatment. It is expected to become available in early 2013.
Navistar spokesperson Steve Schrier told SBF that the short-term focus for ICT+ is on the company's MaxxForce big-bore engines. For the mid-range engines — those used in IC Bus school buses, "we remain committed to our current in-cylinder Advanced EGR for the near future," Schrier said.
The company said in a press release that it intends to continue building and shipping current model EPA-compliant trucks in all vehicle classes "using appropriate combinations of earned emissions credits and/or non-compliance penalties (NCPs) during the transition to ICT+."
