AI Tools Roundup: New Fleet Tools Aim to Turn Data Into Faster Decisions
The latest AI-powered platforms could help student transportation teams analyze fleet performance, manage maintenance, and uncover operational insights using natural-language queries.

Geotab is extending fleet intelligence into widely used AI platforms such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, while RTA Fleet is embedding AI directly within its fleet management software.

Two fleet technology providers are rolling out new artificial intelligence tools designed to help transportation operators access fleet information more quickly and make better-informed decisions without relying on traditional reporting processes.
Geotab Connects Fleet Data to Popular AI Platforms
Geotab announced the launch of its new Model Context Protocol (MCP) Connector, which enables fleets to securely access live MyGeotab data through AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and other MCP-compatible tools.
The connector allows users to query fleet data using natural language and complete tasks such as generating reports, scheduling maintenance, creating alerts, and executing multi-step workflows directly within approved AI environments.
According to Geotab, the solution is built on an open standard rather than a proprietary AI ecosystem, allowing organizations to choose the AI platform that best fits their policies and workflows.

The Geotab MCP (Model Context Protocol) AI connector was presented by Mike Branch, vice president of data and analytics, and Sabina Martin, vice president of product management.

"High quality data and information is essential for AI solutions to have a measurable impact on business operations," said Mike Branch, vice president of data and analytics at Geotab. "Geotab has one of the world's largest and cleanest fleet datasets, built over more than 25 years."
The company says it processes approximately 37 trillion data points annually from more than 6 million connected vehicles worldwide.
RTA Embeds AI Directly Into Fleet Management Software
Meanwhile, RTA, The Fleet Success Company, announced the general availability of Ron360, a conversational AI assistant built directly into its Fleet360 fleet management platform.
Unlike external AI tools that often require exporting data into separate systems, Ron360 allows users to ask questions about maintenance, parts, costs, and fleet operations directly within Fleet360. Responses can include text explanations, charts, sortable tables, and source citations, while remaining subject to existing user permissions.
The platform is designed to help fleet managers access information more quickly without having to create custom reports or dashboards.
"Many fleets struggle to leverage their data because they lack the skills, time, or resources to access it quickly and reliably," said Marc Canton, vice president of fleet strategy at RTA Fleet. "Ron360 helps solve that by reducing the time required to find information, lowering training barriers for new users, and helping fleet professionals make faster, more informed decisions."
RTA said the AI assistant is read-only by design and includes source attribution and permission controls to address governance and security concerns.
What It Means for School Transportation
While the two offerings take different approaches, they reflect how fleet management companies are striving to make operational data easier to access through conversational AI.
In consideration of school transportation departments, the potential applications range from quickly identifying maintenance trends and vehicle utilization patterns to generating reports, analyzing routing performance, and accessing safety data without specialized reporting expertise.
The announcements also highlight two emerging paths for fleet AI adoption. Geotab is extending fleet intelligence into widely used AI platforms such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, while RTA is embedding AI directly within fleet management software. Both approaches aim to reduce the time transportation professionals spend searching for information and increase the time spent acting on it.
