Five school districts across Georgia, North Carolina, and Alabama are adopting new transportation management technology to support school bus routing, dispatching, and communication with families.
AlphaRoute announced on October 5 that it has entered into software partnerships with Atlanta Public Schools, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Selma City Schools, Jasper City Schools, and Fairfield City Schools.
The agreements cover districts of varying sizes, including Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, which operates approximately 700 buses serving more than 100,000 students, according to AlphaRoute.
What Technology Are Districts Implementing?
The districts are adopting different combinations of AlphaRoute's transportation management tools, including:
- AlphaPlan: School bus route planning and management
- AlphaPortal: Parent communication and bus tracking
- AlphaView: Dispatch management and vehicle location monitoring
- AlphaDrive: A mobile application for school bus drivers
Several districts are also installing GPS equipment and in-vehicle tablets as part of their technology rollouts.
The systems are intended to give transportation departments greater visibility into daily operations while providing families with access to bus location information.
Building on Previous Routing Projects
The new agreements follow AlphaRoute's earlier school bus routing projects in Florida, including work with Polk County and Collier County.
In Manatee County, Florida, a previous route optimization project helped reduce the district's fleet requirements from 108 buses to 94, according to the company. That represents a reduction of approximately 13%.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools also had an existing relationship with AlphaRoute before expanding its contract in 2026 to include additional transportation software applications.
The latest agreements reflect a larger use of transportation management technology beyond route planning, including dispatch visibility, driver applications, and parent apps.
For transportation departments evaluating similar systems, the operational considerations include how routing and tracking tools integrate with existing workflows, whether they reduce administrative demands, and how effectively they support communication between dispatchers, drivers, schools, and families.
