IC Bus will introduce a concept electric school bus at the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) trade show next week.
The concept vehicle, which IC Bus said is fully operational, is the result of a joint effort between IC Bus parent company Navistar and Volkswagen Truck & Bus Group. The two manufacturers finalized a wide-ranging strategic alliance earlier this year.
According to IC Bus, the new electric vehicle was designed to provide “an environmentally friendly school bus option that aims to lower the total cost of ownership (TCO) and offer user-friendly options and features with diesel-like performance.”
Navistar and Volkswagen Truck & Bus Group announced plans to develop an electric-powered, medium-duty vehicle for the U.S. and Canadian markets at the North American Commercial Vehicle Show in Atlanta in September.
The unveiling of the concept electric school bus will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 9:15 a.m. Eastern time at booth 619 in the NAPT trade show. The show will be held at the Greater Columbus (Ohio) Convention Center.
The unveiling, which will include remarks from Trish Reed, vice president and general manager of IC Bus, will be available for viewing via a live stream at www.facebook.com/icbus.
