WASHINGTON, D.C. — The EPA has awarded a $224,540 grant to the District Department of the Environment (DDOE) as part of its Clean School Bus USA program.
The DDOE will work with the District of Columbia Public Schools’ (DCPS) Division of Transportation (DOT) to reduce the amount of exhaust emitted by its school buses.
“We couldn’t be more pleased about the opportunity to work with the DOT to reduce school bus emissions,” said George Hawkins, DDOE director. “This partnership is positive for so many reasons, especially reducing the air pollution levels that affect our children.” DCPS, which transports nearly 4,000 special-needs students on approximately 630 bus routes, will use the funds to install particulate matter filters on 22 diesel-powered buses from model year 2004.
