A school district in Washington County (Tenn.) is adding more propane-powered buses to its fleet.

According to a news report from Johnson City Press, Bill Flanary, the county’s director of schools, asked the Washington County Commission’s Health, Education and Welfare Committee for approval of several capital projects last October. The request included purchasing six new propane school buses.

Washington County used funds from the East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition’s “2021 Reducing Diesel Emissions for a Healthier Tennessee” program to add these six new propane buses to its fleet. The district received $54,000, which went toward IC Bus CE propane-powered school buses.

This brings its total of propane buses to 11.

In addition to the propane buses, the school system also received the first all-electric school bus in Tennessee, as SBF reported in June.
