School Bus Driver Hailed a Hero for Crash Response
David Buehler of Alabama comes to the aid of the driver that crashed into the rear of his bus and quickly evacuates all students aboard.
ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — A local school bus driver and history teacher is being called a hero by parents for his quick response after his bus was rear-ended by a car on Tuesday.
At approximately 3:23 p.m., according to the Robertsdale Police Department’s Facebook page, a school bus was stopped on Highway 90 with its stop bar activated. Students were exiting the bus when it was struck in the rear by a Kia Sportage. Four students were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger in the Kia was also taken to the hospital, and the driver was taken to a hospital in Mobile by helicopter, according to the police department.
Meanwhile, the bus driver, who police and parents told WPMI is named David Buehler, came to the aid of the driver of the car and evacuated all of the students aboard his bus as quickly as possible. He was afraid that the bus would catch fire, according to the news source.
Police told WPMI that the 72-year-old driver of the car that crashed into the bus may have had a medical issue, causing the crash.
