FORT VALLEY, Ga. — Blue Bird will continue to offer its Propane-Powered Vision after the closure of a GM engine plant.

The school bus manufacturer said that sufficient quantities of 8.1L engines have been bought to ensure an uninterrupted supply of the Propane-Powered Vision until a successor engine is available.

Blue Bird also said that GM has taken a proactive stance in building thousands of 8.1L engines to meet their requirement to support warranty and aftermarket replacement of the engine for years through its service parts operation.

“We can absolutely confirm that there will continue to be a Blue Bird Propane-Powered Vision bus in your future,” said Greg Bennett, president and CEO of Blue Bird.

The school bus manufacturer said there has been some concern that the propane bus would have to exit the market with the shutdown of the 8.1L engine plant. However, the company said, “This has never been the plan of Blue Bird nor our supplier partners, CleanFUEL USA and Powertrain Integration.”
