TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. — Maintenance reports on a Tippecanoe School Corp. bus that was involved in an accident in February indicate that there were no mechanical issues that might have contributed to it, the Journal & Courier reports.

As previously reported, driver Beverly Turner was transporting students on the morning of Feb. 28 when she crashed the bus into a cement post. She claimed that mechanical problems may have contributed to the accident, and she claimed to have reported steering problems to Tippecanoe School Corp. earlier this year. 

Investigators determined that Turner fell asleep at the wheel of her bus and caused the accident. Turner was later diagnosed with sleep apnea, which she said might have contributed to the crash.

According to the Journal & Courier, the bus was inspected after another driver reported that the tail end of the bus was weaving. Fleet Manager Steve Lehman told the news source that no issues were found, even when the dealership checked the steering while the bus was in for a reprogramming of the engine.
