IC Bus has delivered its first electric CE Series school buses to school districts in British Columbia, Canada.
As previously reported, in September 2020, IC Bus dealer Western Canada Bus placed an order for a total of 18 Type C electric school buses to be operated by 13 British Columbia school districts. The dealership has reportedly been working with the region’s districts over the last two years to electrify their school bus fleets, according to a news release from Navistar, the parent company of IC Bus.
Equipped with three battery options, the electric CE Series is designed to meet a variety of customer needs and has an operating range of up to 70 to 200 miles on a single charge, according to Navistar. The electric bus also offers three levels of regenerative braking, allowing the bus to gather kinetic energy created from braking and use it to power the vehicle.
"We look forward to expanding our electric footprint and leading in the electric space by delivering the very best electric bus solution on the market," said Trish Reed, vice president and general manager for IC Bus, in Navistar's news release.
With the help of NEXT, Navistar's eMobility business unit, IC Bus serves customers through a "5 Cs" approach: consulting, constructing, charging, connecting, and conservation. This approach reportedly includes improving on-site infrastructure, exploring grant opportunities, and working with local electric companies to lower the total cost of vehicle ownership.
