WHITPAIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Isabel Llopis, a sixth-grade student, reportedly helped her classmates safely exit a school bus after it drove off the road and slammed into a home Tuesday morning, NBC10 reports.

Police told the news source that nine students, ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade, were on board when the crash occurred. Adam Glazer, who lives near the site of the crash, told NBC10 Llopolis opened the bus’ back door and told all the students to get out. Glazer added that another neighbor, Craig Kelman, turned the bus’ ignition off and made sure no children were still on the bus, and that Kelman’s wife called 911.

Witnesses said the bus driver seemed coherent but appeared to be hyperventilating, NBC10 reports. The bus driver was also described by Kelman as “lethargic,” and Kelman added that the driver told him he “completely blacked out” and the first question he asked was whether the children were OK, according to the news outlet.

The driver was taken to the hospital and his condition is unknown, according to NBC10. One of the students suffered a bloody nose, but there were no other reported injuries.
