LIVERMORE FALLS, Maine — Regional School Unit 36 school bus driver Eleanor Jackson retired late last month after more than 40 years on the job.
The 81-year-old drove buses for the district and another in the area for 39 years, and was the first female school bus driver in the area, Sun Journal reports.
Prior to working in Maine, Jackson drove buses for two years in Rhode Island.
She told the Sun Journal that she loves children of all ages and that she had good experiences with them over the years. She noted that the key to successfully transporting students is showing them respect.
During her retirement, Jackson, who is also a farmer, plans to raise and show her cattle at a local fair and tend to her garden.
