RICHLANDS, Va. — Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports that three people were arrested for allegedly stealing a school bus from the Richlands High School campus.
Richlands Police Chief Frank Dorton told the newspaper that three adults and two juveniles took the school activity bus from the high school complex. The bus was located at 2:47 a.m. on June 27 on the athletic field of Southwest Virginia Community College.
Kevin Todd McGlothlin, 20; Chelsea Noel Perkins, 18; and Christopher Michael Paul, 18, were all charged with one count of grand larceny, one count of conspiracy to commit grand larceny, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and one count of trespassing on school property, Dorton said. Charges are pending against two juveniles who were also found with the stolen bus.
Police are still investigating why the adults stole the bus, according to the newspaper. Officials are also still trying to figure out how one of the three individuals apparently obtained the keys used to operate the bus, Dorton told Bluefield Daily Telegraph. He added that there was no damage to the bus, but the football field may have been damaged as a result of the school bus being driven onto it.
