ROSEBURG, Ore. — On Jan. 8, deputies arrested two local high school students for allegedly slashing the tires on 18 First Student school buses.

The bus contractor had discovered the vandalism the previous day and notified the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office; deputies then began an investigation and developed information on the suspects.

A 17-year-old male, whose name was not released, was questioned by authorities at South Umpqua High School and then transported to the county’s juvenile detention center, where he was booked on charges of first degree criminal mischief and second degree trespassing.

The second suspect, 18-year-old Daniel Farmer, was arrested later in the day and lodged in the county jail on the same charges.

First Student officials estimated that the damage to the buses was between $7,500 and $10,000.
