CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A freshman student of Garinger High School was released from jail Friday after being shocked with a stun gun by a school resource officer (SRO) Thursday for “causing problems on a school bus,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officials told WSOCTV Channel 9.
Police officials said an officer working as an SRO at the school used a stun gun on the 16-year-old student, who was causing a disturbance on a bus on school property in the bus lot, and there were no serious injuries to the student or the officer, the news outlet reports.
The SRO first tried to talk the student down and then restrained him before resorting to using his stun gun, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools spokesperson. The officer shocked the student after he cursed at the officer and tried to punch him, police told WSOCTV Channel 9.
The Sheriff's Office said the student was released Thursday on a written promise to appear in court.
