TUCSON, Ariz. — A school bus driver here died a week after he was struck by a car in the road outside of his bus.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Jan. 22 at Casas Christian School. According to the Oro Valley Police Department, Casas school bus driver Jason Henry, 40, had exited his bus to move a sign in the road in front of the school.

A Honda Civic driven by a 16-year-old male struck Henry, who sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital. On Friday, a week after the incident, Henry succumbed to his injuries.

The Honda driver told police that he didn’t see Henry in the roadway until it was too late to avoid him. Oro Valley Police Department officials said in a press release on Friday that no criminal charges are pending in the case.

Henry leaves behind a wife and two children, one of whom attends Casas Christian School. A GoFundMe account was set up to gather financial support for Henry’s family. As of this writing, the donation drive had collected $14,185 of a goal of $15,000.

“Please pray for the Henry family as they grieve, and learn to adjust to what's to come,” organizers wrote on the GoFundMe page.

Casas Christian School announced that a memorial service for Henry would be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at the Casas campus.
