NAPA, Calif. — A school bus driver here was arrested and charged with DUI after her bus bottomed out while turning around on Friday.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported on Twitter that a school bus had become stuck on Old Sonoma Rd. A photo showed the bus positioned perpendicular to the roadway, with the back end hanging off of the road and the rest of the bus blocking traffic. CHP advised other motorists to use alternate routes.
No injuries were reported.
According to a CHP report obtained by KRON, school bus driver Jaquida Parker was transporting 28 students when the incident occurred.
An officer who arrived at the scene found Parker standing on the shoulder of the road near the disabled bus. The officer said that he observed signs of alcohol intoxication while he was talking with Parker. The school bus driver was unable to perform a series of field sobriety tests, according to CHP.
Parker was arrested and later submitted to a breath chemical test. She was booked into the county jail on charges of DUI with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or more, and 28 counts of felony child endangerment.
CHP said that the investigation was ongoing.
