SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A school bus driver crashed into a tree and a house on Friday after trying to avoid hitting two squirrels, FOX Carolina reports.
The crash happened just before 8 a.m. on Beechwood Drive as the bus was transporting six students to Spartanburg High School, according to the news source. The driver told police that she tried to avoid hitting two squirrels that ran into the road, FOX Carolina reports. However, she lost control of the bus, which ran off the side of the road, she overcorrected, and then the bus spun around before hitting the tree and stopping against the house, according to the news source.
The Spartanburg Fire Department said in a post on Facebook that no one was injured in the crash, and only minor damage was caused to the house. The department also said in the post that Spartanburg emergency personnel and officials from Spartanburg District 7 came to the scene to make sure the students were safe.
Police told FOX Carolina that the driver was cited for "failure to exercise due care."
