School Bus Driver, 16 Students Injured When Bus Overturns in Crash
The Texas bus driver reportedly swerves to try to avoid hitting another vehicle, veers off the road, overturns, and crashes into a ditch. Sixteen students and the bus driver are taken to the hospital.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A school bus driver and 16 students here were taken to the hospital after their bus swerved off the road, overturned, and crashed into a ditch on Friday, KTRK reports.
The bus driver told investigators that she swerved to miss another vehicle and lost control of the bus, KHOU reports. Witness Damon Martin told KTRK that the bus driver tried to avoid hitting a truck and veered off the road. He added that he entered the back door of the bus and helped safely evacuate the students.
Crosby Independent School District later confirmed on its Facebook page that the bus driver and all of the students who were transported to the hospital were released.
District Superintendent Keith Moore told KTRK that the district will review video footage from the bus and will work with law enforcement on finding out what caused the crash. The school bus does not have seat belts, which are not required by law.
