No one on school bus hurt in hit-and-run
The bus was stopped to pick up a student when the driver of a Nissan Altima struck the back of the bus. The driver fled but was later caught by police.
BURLINGTON, N.C. — A motorist was arrested in the hit-and-run of a school bus here on Wednesday morning.
The Burlington Police Department reported that the Alamance-Burlington School System bus was stationary, with its stop arm extended, and was picking up a student. The school bus driver told police that the driver of a gray Nissan Altima hit the bus in the left rear and then fled the scene.
There were 36 elementary students on the bus at the time of the crash. None of the students nor the bus driver reported any injuries, police said.
School district officials responded to the crash and notified parents. The bus sustained an estimated $2,000 in damage, but it was able to continue on its route.
Meanwhile, police officers canvassed the area and located the Nissan that struck the bus. The car also had an estimated $2,000 in damage.
According to the Burlington Police Department, the driver of the Nissan at the time of the crash was Scott James Davis IV, 21. Officers located and arrested him.
Davis was charged with hit-and-run, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and passing a stopped school bus. A county magistrate released him under a written promise to appear in court.
