Nebraska lawmaker revives school bus seat belt bill
LINCOLN, Neb. — Earlier this month, state Sen. John Harms introduced a bill that would require all school buses to be equipped with seat belts.
LINCOLN, Neb. — Earlier this month, state Sen. John Harms introduced a bill that would require all school buses to be equipped with seat belts.
The bill would require buses manufactured on or after the law’s effective date and those purchased starting in 2010 to be equipped with lap-shoulder belts.
In addition, the bill would require all school bus passengers to use the belts while the bus is in motion and school bus operations to provide instruction to students regarding the proper use of the belts.
Harms introduced the same measure last year but ended up pulling it from consideration after school administrators complained that it was an unfunded mandate.
On Friday, the bill was referred to the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee for review.
