JEROME, Idaho — On Tuesday, a 6-year-old girl who fell asleep and was left alone on her school bus left the bus and walked for about half a mile before a firefighter found her, Jerome County authorities told Twin Falls Times-News.
The firefighter called the police and a county deputy met the firefighter and took the girl to school, Sheriff Doug McFall told the newspaper. He added that the girl did not appear to be injured. However, the girl’s mother, Kristy Garcia Perez, wrote in a Facebook post that she took her daughter, Lyndzie, to the hospital Tuesday evening because she was scared of being left alone again and having difficulty falling asleep, according to Twin Falls-Times News.
After dropping off elementary school students, buses return to the bus barn about 8:15 a.m., and the girl was found at about 10:30 a.m., Jerome Fiscus, owner of North Side Bus Co., the company that employed the driver, told the newspaper. He added the bus driver didn't do a post-trip child check and was fired. Fiscus also said that the incident occurred at a time when the company is short of help.
Horizon Elementary School Principal Terry Fisher said Lyndzie will be assigned a seat on the bus and paired with a fellow student who will act as a “bus buddy,” according to the newspaper.
