'Ice missile' strikes bus, shattering windshield
A sheet of ice that fell off of a tractor-trailer hits the bus. The driver successfully pulls the bus over. He and three students sustain injuries in the incident.
STRATFORD, Conn. — A high school bus was struck by a sheet of ice that fell off of a tractor-trailer on a freeway, shattering the windshield. The bus driver was able to successfully pull to the side of the road.
Bus driver Eli McNair and three students were transported to a hospital following the incident, the Connecticut Post reports. They were cut by glass and ice shards. One student also suffered a neck injury but was not seriously hurt. Thirty other students were transported to school by a second bus that was sent to the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer did not stop after the accident and has not been identified. The damaged bus was driven back to the We Transport Inc. bus depot in Bridgeport, where it will be repaired.
