GAINESVILLE, Ga. — School bus driver Bertha Hutson was honored on Monday for her actions during a crash involving her bus earlier this month, the Gainesville Times reports.

Hutson, who works for Hall County Schools, was transporting elementary school students when her bus was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer transporting heavy machinery. According to the Georgia State Patrol, which handled the investigation, the bus was making a left turn when it was struck.  

Two students complained of minor injuries, but they were not transported to a hospital, officials said. Hutson sustained a shoulder injury, but Jewel Armour, the school system’s executive director of operations, told the school board that Hutson still followed the procedures she had been trained on, and even though she was injured, she kept the students under control.
