OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — The School District of Osceola County is piloting a new program that will track students with an ID card or bracelet to ensure they safely board and deboard their school buses, WFTV reports.
The district told the news outlet that because some students, younger ones in particular, have gotten on the wrong bus or have tried to leave the bus at the wrong stop, it is introducing the swipe card system to help keep track of students. Students will swipe an ID card when they board and then swipe again when they get off the bus. The tracking system is part of a package that includes GPS routing and time management software, WFTV reports.
The district plans to test the program next month with high school students and work out any bugs before implementing the system for all students at the beginning of the next school year, according to WFTV.
