Driver resigns after crashing bus into house
In the May 23 accident, Jack Thomas, who was not wearing his seat belt, falls out of his seat after making a turn and is unable to maintain control of the bus. It careens off the other side of the road, goes through a fence and into the house’s garage.
CARMEL, Ind. — A school bus driver for Carmel Clay Schools has resigned following an accident wherein he crashed his bus into a house, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Jack Thomas, a 12-year driver for the district, submitted his resignation earlier this week. Officials investigated the May 23 incident after it was captured by surveillance footage from a camera on the bus.
A police report indicated that the bus’ wheel left the road after Thomas made a turn. Thomas, who was not wearing his seat belt, bounced out of his seat, and was unable to maintain control of the bus. It careened off the other side of the road, went through a fence and some trees and into the garage of the house. He was injured and was transported to a hospital. There were no children on board.
