District stops transporting students on pothole-ridden road
The school system’s transportation coordinator says that the buses would rock back and forth when going over the deep potholes, and officials were concerned that students could hit their heads and get hurt. Part of the road was graded earlier this week.
RHODES CORNER, Nova Scotia — Officials from the South Shore Regional School Board have decided to halt the transportation of students in school buses on a pothole-ridden road here.
Norm Stableford, the transportation coordinator for the district, told CBC News that the district was concerned for students’ safety, because the buses would rock back and forth when going over the deep potholes, which could have caused students to hit their heads and get hurt.
Stableford also noted that driving on such bad roads is hard on the buses.
A crew from the Department of Transportation graded part of the road on Monday, but a department spokesperson told CBC News that work on the rest of the road will not be completed until it dries.
There are currently no plans to do any major upgrades to the road.
