The average cost of diesel and gasoline fell again in the past week, but gas saw a 7 cent bump upward in the Rocky Mountain region. Overall, this should be helpful for school transportation fleet maintenance teams.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that gasoline runs about $3.39 per gallon on average, down from $3.44. The average price of diesel fell from $4.54 to $4.44.

Current average fuel prices by region (gasoline/diesel):
East Coast: $3.34/$4.65
Midwest: $3.24/$4.27
Gulf Coast: $3.02/$4.15
Rocky Mountain: $3.77/$4.66
West Coast: $4.11/$5.03
“While diesel prices likely have a long way to fall as inventories continue to improve, gasoline prices in some areas have gone up in the last weeks as the transition to summer gasoline is just around the corner,” wrote Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
Gasoline prices may climb again as demand rises due to warming temperatures and refinery maintenance season.
“On average, gasoline prices rise between 35 and 85 cents per gallon between March and Memorial Day, so motorists seeing prices fall should enjoy the declines while they last,” De Haan wrote.
