In July, Noregon introduced CAN Mentor, a new vehicle network diagnostic application, and rolled out a major update to its flagship JPRO diagnostic software earlier this year aimed at simplifying CAN Bus troubleshooting for technicians.

CAN Mentor connects to a vehicle through Noregon's DLA+ 3.0 XBT adapter and automatically checks the CAN network for voltage and resistance issues without requiring a multimeter or oscilloscope. The software then identifies the affected area of the vehicle, helping technicians quickly locate communication faults.

"This new technology makes network diagnostics accessible for technicians of all skill levels," said Jason Hedman, Noregon product manager, in a statement. "Without having an extensive background in network analysis, technicians can use CAN Mentor to diagnose communication issues and know where to begin troubleshooting the issue."

The company also released the latest update for JPRO, expanding the software's CAN Bus diagnostic capabilities. The update integrates more closely with JPRO's Repair Mentor feature, which now identifies the location of open, disconnected, or short circuits and graphs live voltage and resistance data to help technicians determine the root cause of communication problems.

According to Hedman, the enhanced functionality is designed to reduce the learning curve for less-experienced technicians.

"By following prompts in the software, newer technicians can solve communication issues under the guidance of their diagnostic tool without always having to grab a multimeter or pull away a more experienced coworker," he said.

The JPRO update also adds proprietary engine fault coverage and roll call support for certain semi-trucks, with new bi-directional tests for Eaton and Cummins components.

Noregon said both CAN Mentor and the latest version of JPRO are now available. CAN Mentor can be purchased as a standalone software package for users with an existing DLA+ 3.0 XBT adapter or bundled with an adapter kit. In contrast, current JPRO users can update their software through the application or the company's website.
