B3CG Interconnect Inc., a manufacturer of harness assemblies and electromechanical components, has partnered with EnerDel Inc., a supplier of lithium-ion batteries, to develop and manufacture traction batteries for Canadian school bus manufacturer Lion Bus.
The batteries will be used for Lion Bus’ forthcoming all-electric school bus.
Officials said that each 72-seat bus will feature composite body materials and an advanced electric powertrain that’s equipped with more than 100 kWh of lithium-ion batteries. The system will allow an expected range of more than 50 miles.
The main battery components, including EnerDel’s new high-density Moxie+ modules and Secure+ battery management system, will be built by the company in Indiana. The final battery and wiring harness assembly will be completed by B3CG in Quebec.
“The Quebec government has created an exceptional program to develop and electrify public transportation,” EnerDel CEO David Roberts said. “Participation in this national program would not be possible without strong partnership with B3CG.”
“Collaborating with EnerDel gives us access to reliable and safe battery technology and allows us to enter into the battery industry,” added Stefan Baumans, B3CG president and CEO. “We spent significant efforts seeking the right supplier from among the key players in the lithium-ion market. EnerDel’s product offerings fulfilled our needs for a high-quality, safe product.”
Officials said the first prototype battery system components have been delivered and are being prepared for system integration and vehicle testing.
