City officials approve seat belt use requirement

BURLINGTON, Mass. — This week, the Board of Selectmen adopted a policy aimed at increasing seat belt use, with a special focus on school bus seat belts.
Burlington is one of the few towns in the area where school buses are equipped with seat belts, but their use is not enforced. Board officials discussed publicizing seat belt use on school buses in school welcome packets and in classrooms.
Failure to wear a seat belt would remain a secondary offense, meaning people will not be pulled over for that reason alone, according to an article on Boston.com. But failing to wear a seat belt could result in a citation and $25 fine.
