Bus driver resigns after being caught texting
School district officials review footage from cameras inside Connie Hankins’ bus after receiving an anonymous call that she was sending text messages while driving. The footage showed Hankins texting on three occasions; on two of those occasions, students were on the bus.
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — A school bus driver for Rockingham County Schools recently resigned after it was discovered that she was sending text messages while operating her bus.
Connie Hankins worked as a bus driver at Draper Elementary School prior to an anonymous phone call made to the district’s safety director on Sept. 21. The caller said that Hankins was texting on her cell phone while driving, according to Danville News.
The school district then launched an investigation and reviewed video footage from several cameras inside Hankins’ bus. Footage showed Hankins texting on three occasions; on two of those occasions, there were students on the bus.
Hankins remains a part-time employee in the school’s cafeteria, Danville News reports.
