Accused Florida school bus shooter pleads not guilty
Edgar Robles, 16, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle. He is being tried as an adult and would face a minimum of 25 years in prison if convicted.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Wednesday, a 16-year-old student accused of shooting a school bus and wounding two girls aboard pleaded not guilty, News4Jax reports.
Edgar Robles was arrested during a traffic stop in Georgia and treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound last month, the news source reported.
Robles has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle, and prosecutors said more charges could be filed against him since there were 30 children aboard the bus when he shot into it, according to News4Jax.
Robles is being tried as an adult and would face a minimum of 25 years in prison if convicted, the news source reports. State Attorney Angela Corey made the determination that Robles will be tried as an adult because the crimes he is accused of are so egregious, News4Jax reports. Robles’ family attorney told the news source that, being 16 years old, Robles doesn’t understand the consequences as an adult would.
