SAN ANTONIO — A school bus struck a 6-year-old girl, who later died, on Tuesday morning, and investigators are expected to review the bus’ video surveillance cameras to determine how the accident happened.  

A spokesperson for Judson Independent School District (ISD), where Jada Craft attended school, told news outlet KHOU that she was hit by the bus in front of her apartment complex’s leasing office. Authorities at the Universal City Police Department said they believe she may have been running late and was trying to catch the bus when she was struck. A male relative who was with Craft took her back to her unit at the apartment complex, where she died as a result of her injuries.

Police officers told KHOU that there were at least 15 students on the bus at the time of the incident, and the bus driver was reportedly unaware of what occurred. She continued on her route and learned about the accident later that day. No charges are expected against the driver.

Craft attended Coronado Village Elementary School within Judson ISD.

In a statement on the school district’s Facebook page on Tuesday, officials said, “Our prayers and condolences from Judson ISD in light of today's tragic loss. Coronado Village Elementary School will have counselors on hand again Wednesday to assist any students or staff members. A terrible accident and loss like this needs the comfort of friends and family and the One who is bigger than all of us to try to understand it.”
