STI subsidiary takes over Atlantic Express’ California operations

Student Transportation Inc. (STI)’s SchoolWheels Direct will manage the California school transportation business of Atlantic Express until an asset purchase agreement is closed. FMCSA: CDL drivers still have to self-certify by Jan. 30

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration publishes a final rule that extends by one year the requirement for interstate commercial drivers to have paper copies of their medical examiner’s certifications with them while operating their vehicle. However, the deadline for CDL drivers to self-certify their status (interstate or intrastate, exempt or non-exempt) is still Jan. 30, 2014.

Student who took over bus from drunk driver up for award

The Ontario Provincial Police nominates Brianne St. Onge for a citizen’s award for ordering her school bus driver, who appeared to be drunk, to pull over and hand her the keys while she called police from her cell phone last June. Driver Keith Rawson’s Breathalyzer test showed he had nearly three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

District must bus student to both parents’ homes

The Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania rules that a school district in Lancaster must provide the service to the student from both of his divorced parents’ homes, upholding an older ruling by a county judge who found that the district was violating the state Public School Code by refusing to provide such service. The Commonwealth Court judge notes that the school bus that serves the neighborhood has empty seats and could accommodate the boy without adding another stop along its route.
