Bus driver dies after saving student from rolling bus

In Akron, Ohio, school bus driver Laura Zborowski was conducting emergency evacuation drills with students when the bus began to roll. Police say that Zborowski pushed a 10-year-old girl out of the path of the bus and attempted to board the bus to stop it, but the driver was pulled under the vehicle.

IC Bus now offering Allison’s FuelSense package

The manufacturer’s school buses are now available with FuelSense Basic in the Allison 1000 and 2000 series transmissions paired with either the Cummins ISB 6.7-liter engine or the MaxxForce DT engine. The company will also offer FuelSense Plus and Max as optional packages beginning in the spring of 2015.

Student shocked with stun gun after misbehaving on school bus

A freshman student of Garinger High School in North Carolina was allegedly “causing problems on the bus” when a school resource officer tried to talk the student down and then restrained him before using his stun gun. Police said the officer shocked the student after he cursed at the officer and tried to punch him.

Out-of-control car kills 15-year-old at school bus stop

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the car was traveling too fast for conditions, and the driver lost control. The vehicle veered off of the road, fatally struck a teenager who was waiting for a school bus, struck a mailbox and then overturned.

Utah district revives student bus safety training following fatal accident

Jordan School District brought back a program that trains elementary school students in school bus safety basics after a 10-year-old student was fatally struck by a bus after getting off another bus in May. The district had ended the program in 2009 when it split.

New York’s RFP law for school bus contracts now permanent

The state’s request for proposal law on school transportation contracts will no longer have to be approved every five years by the Legislature. Robert Pape, president of the New York School Bus Contractors Association, hails the move as “a big win for student safety.”
