YAZOO CITY, Miss. — High school student Kaleb Eulls was hailed as a hero for his actions helping to save his fellow school bus passengers from an armed teen in early September.
Eulls was asleep when a 14-year-old female student boarded the bus with a .380 semi-automatic handgun. She threatened to shoot those she accused of teasing her and ordered the bus driver to pull over.
One of Eulls’ three younger sisters, who were all among the 22 passengers riding the bus to Yazoo County High School, woke him up, and he tried to reason with the armed student while the other passengers escaped through the rear emergency door.
The girl looked away for a moment, and that’s when Eulls tackled her, taking away the firearm. He said he acted out of concern for the other children on the bus, including his family members.
Several news outlets, including CNN, posted the video of the incident online, as well as interviews with Eulls.
As a football player, Eulls is rated the No. 19 defensive end in the nation and the No. 8 overall prospect in Mississippi. He has been committed to join the Mississippi State Bulldogs since July.
The female assailant was arrested on 22 counts of attempted aggravated assault, 22 counts of kidnapping and one count of possession of a firearm on school property. She was taken to the county juvenile detention facility.
