WORCESTER, Mass. — Earlier this month, upon responding to a report of a motor vehicle accident, Worcester police found a full-size school bus that had struck a single family home.
According to preliminary accident reports, Evan Perotto, the 17-year-old driver of a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into the school bus. The bus driver lost control of the vehicle, and it crashed into a stone wall and then into the front of the house. The bus did not contain any passengers.
Perotto and his passenger were not injured in the accident. The school bus operator, a 58-year-old male, suffered a minor hand injury and was taken to a nearby hospital.
The bus was mechanically inspected by investigators, who found no mechanical malfunctions. The bus, a 2006, was recently inspected by Department of Transportation officials and was in good working condition. It received substantial damage in the accident.
Perotto was cited for failing to stop for a stop sign. His vehicle received extensive front-end damage and is most likely a total loss, officials said.
The house struck by the bus received extensive damage to the front, with some of the walls appearing to have buckled as a result of the collision. Code inspectors were called to the scene, and the residents were allowed to stay in the home.
