WASHINGTON, D.C. — Robert Sumwalt was sworn in Tuesday for his second five-year term as a board member of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
Nominated by President Obama, Sumwalt’s term of office will run until Dec. 31, 2016.

“Public service is truly one of the highest callings in the land,” Sumwalt said. “I have been honored to serve on the NTSB for the past five years, and I am humbled and appreciative that President Obama has asked me to serve for an additional term. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on the board, as well as the NTSB staff.”
Sumwalt was first designated as a board member on Aug. 21, 2006, by President Bush and served as vice chairman of the board for a two-year term. He is currently serving a five-year term as a board member, which ends on Dec. 31.
