The 2016 total of school bus sales in the U.S. and Canada, 40,925 units, is the highest mark for the industry in the past 10 years.

School bus sales in the U.S. and Canada have increased for the fifth year in a row, School Bus Fleet research has found.
In the 2016 sales year (Nov. 1, 2015, to Oct. 31, 2016), school bus sales were up 1.8% from 2015, according to data collected from the manufacturers.
The 2016 total, 40,925 units, is the highest mark for the industry in the past 10 years. Just five years ago, in 2011, school bus sales in the U.S. and Canada had hit a low point of 29,060 units.
In 2016, nearly three-fourths (72%) of the school buses sold were Type Cs, which are also known as conventionals. Type A (small) school buses accounted for 19% of the total sales, and the remaining 9% were Type D (or transit-style) school buses.
A detailed sales report will appear in School Bus Fleet’s upcoming 2017 Fact Book.
