WAUKEE, Iowa — A new school bus driver here quit her job in the middle of driving her route last week, KCCI reports.
Waukee Community School District Superintendent Dr. David Wilkerson confirmed to the news source that the driver walked off the job and “for whatever reason became very frustrated while picking students up and decided they had had enough.” The driver took the students she had already picked up to school before quitting, and another driver was sent out immediately to pick up the students on the route who weren’t picked up, Wilkerson added.
A parent of one student on the driver’s route told KCCI that it appeared the driver was speeding down the road and was using foul language.
Wilkerson also told the news source that student safety was never in question and that some of the driver’s frustration may have come from the difficulty of the route, which constantly changes due to construction, but that that does not excuse the driver's actions.
