EASTON, Pa. — A school bus driver here died on Tuesday evening after she was struck by her own car, which rolled and pinned her against another car in a parking lot near the Easton Area School District bus depot, The Express-Timesreports.
Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek told the newspaper that Bonny Novack was outside her car at about 7 p.m. when the car came out of gear and she got trapped between it and another car. Novack died of crushing injuries and her death was ruled an accident, Lysek added.
Area schools were delayed by two hours on Wednesday morning to give bus drivers and other transportation department employees time to process the loss and grieve, and Easton Area School District Superintendent John Reinhart met with transportation employees, according to The Express-Times. Employees met with grief counselors, who were at the school all day, and some drivers were not able to drive the morning shift.
Novack worked for the district for about three years and recently became an “A” driver with her own route, Reinhart told the newspaper. Coworkers also told The Express-Times that Novack had been having problems with her car and was trying to make extra money to fix it, and that over the last month, they were helping her with transportation.
