MARLBORO, N.J. — A school bus driver who was apparently shown on video to be speeding while students were aboard the bus on Tuesday has been fired, school bus company officials told NJ Advance Media.
The school bus driver, who worked for Shamrock Stage Coach, was recorded in a video by a motorist who was driving 80 mph near the bus on a highway, according to the news source. The speed limit for that area is 65 mph. The motorist, who showed his own speedometer at about 80 mph and then showed the bus ahead, sent the video to local radio station New Jersey 101.5, but would not let his name be used.
As previously reported, Shamrock Stage Coach suspended one of its school bus drivers last month for allegedly texting while driving with students aboard. A middle-school student took video on a phone of the driver looking at what appear to be texts on her phone while driving the bus. The student showed the video to a parent, who posted it in a private Facebook group. The superintendent received several calls about the video and had the director of transportation remove the driver from all bus routes.
Below is the video the motorist took of the driver allegedly speeding, posted on YouTube by New Jersey 101.5.
