RICHMOND, Mich. — A school bus driver here was acknowledged for her quick thinking on Monday during a crash, which likely prevented injuries among the 25 students on board, The Voice reports.
Danielle Kennedy was headed eastbound on Division Rd. when she encountered a small pickup truck traveling westbound, allegedly in her lane, Brian Walmsley, the superintendent of Richmond Community Schools, told school board members. Walmsley added that she honked her horn, and in a split second, she decided to swerve to avoid impact with the truck, according to the newspaper.
Emergency management staff members assessed all 26 people aboard the bus, and the students were eventually transferred to another school bus, The Voice reports.
Walmsley thanked Kennedy in the meeting, and said “Those are her babies on that bus, I think she said, and it took a lot of effort for her to keep them safe,” according to the newspaper.
