LONDON, Ky. — A swarm of police officers converged on a weigh station where a school bus was stopped after a bomb threat was reported on Friday.

According to Sheriff John Root of the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, one or more students on a school bus traveling near London on Friday afternoon said that there was a bomb on board. The driver pulled into a weigh station to make contact with law enforcement.

Root and numerous county deputies, state troopers and state commercial vehicle enforcement officers, along with ambulance and fire department personnel, responded to the scene to assist with the security of the students.

The Kentucky State Police's hazardous devices unit brought a dog to the scene. The bus and students' backpacks were searched.

Sheriff's deputies conducted a scene investigation, interviewing the middle and high school students who were on board and attempting to identify those involved in the bomb scare.

Laurel County Schools officials also arrived to assist with the investigation and to bring another bus to transport the students.

No hazardous devices were found, and the culprits of the scare had not been determined.

"No students have been identified as being the ones involved in reporting a bomb on board the bus," the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office reported on Friday after the incident. "That investigation will be continuing by the sheriff's office and school officials, and appropriate charges will be filed when the investigation completes."
