BEND, Ore. — New bus riders, kindergarten students, and their families are invited to learn about bus safety and take a spin on a Bend-La Pine Schools school bus as part of the district’s Winnie the Pooh School Bus Safety Program.

During one-hour sessions that will be held here on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, families will watch a short movie featuring Winnie the Pooh, learn about the rules of the bus, ride a bus together and enjoy refreshments.

“We love helping our newest students learn about bus safety and the lessons will stick with them throughout the year,” said Kim Crabtree, the district’s director of transportation. “Students who attend will feel confident to ride the bus in September, and parents will feel confident after seeing the safety features of our buses.”

At the events, students will be taught how to cross the street safely, line up to wait for the bus, and behave while riding the bus. The event is aimed at kindergarten students and any students who are unfamiliar with bus safety.
