Ohio School Bus Mechanics Plan July Annual Gathering

The 36th annual workshop includes sessions hosted by major school bus manufacturers and informative training on foundation brakes, tire myths, vinyl repair, and more.

The 36th Annual Ohio School Bus Mechanics Association Workshop and Vendor Show is right around the corner and is open to all technicians who keep Ohio’s school buses on the roads.

The event, which will be hosted at the Embassy Suites Columbus/Dublin, is set for July 14-16, 2025, with registration open no later than June 30. Attendance helps the state’s school bus mechanics meet annual in-service training requirements.

The Open Forum will provide the latest on school bus inspections and vehicle construction standards, presented by Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Sara Mitchell and Heather Free from Ohio’s Department of Education and Workforce.

Classes planned for the workshop include:

  • Ohio specifications and new improvements for school bus bodies hosted by Blue Bird, IC Bus, and Thomas Built Buses.

  • School bus maintenance sessions on Allison transmission, camera diagnostics, Cummins engine, foundation brakes, tire myths, and vinyl repair.

“This Workshop is full of valuable information and resources that help us keep these yellow buses safe on the road,” said Chad Klinge, OSBMA’s northwest regional director.

The vendor show will occur after the initial classes on Tuesday. From 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., vendors from around the country will set up to show off new parts and accessories.

Workshop Kickoff, Vendor Show, and Sessions Highlight Week’s Agenda

The workshop will kick off Monday Night at “The Goat” in Dublin, giving attendees time to reconnect with fellow mechanics across the state and discuss issues and fixes regarding their bus fleets.

The vendor show will occur after the initial classes on Tuesday. From 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., vendors from around the country will set up to show off new parts and accessories. A Tossem Tuesday Cornhole Tournament will follow after dinner.

Wednesday morning will bring participants to their last sessions and a workshop wrap-up meeting.
