Ohio School Bus Driver Recognized for Quick Thinking in Semi Crash
The driver with Archbold Area Schools tells two students who were exiting the bus to run as a semi truck appears to not be stopping as it approaches the bus.
HENRY COUNTY, Ohio — A school bus driver here is being credited for her quick thinking in saving two students as a semi truck collided with her bus on Wednesday.
The bus driver, who is identified by The Crescent News as JoAnn Cousino, told the two students who were exiting the bus to run as the semi truck appeared to not be stopping, according to a news release posted on Archbold Area Schools’ Facebook page. The district said in the release that the crash occurred on State Route 6 at approximately 4:09 p.m.
The semi truck, driven by Kelly Braden, failed to stop in time, striking the left rear corner of the bus, pushing it forward on the right side of the highway, according to The Crescent News. The two remaining students on the bus were not hurt, while Cousino and the driver of the semi truck were transported to the hospital, the newspaper reports.
Archbold Area Schools added in the release that it was thankful for the heroic actions of Cousino and emergency responders, ensuring everyone on the bus was safe and experienced no major injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, according to The Crescent News.
