WASHINGTON, D.C. — As part of its continuing investigation into the collision of a truck and a motorcoach that occurred in Orland, California, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has opened the accident docket, releasing about 2,150 pages of documents.

On April 10, 2014, a Volvo truck-tractor in combination with two trailers operated by FedEx Freight Inc. crossed the center median of Interstate 5, collided with a Nissan Altima and then collided head-on with a Setra motorcoach on the northbound side of the highway. Both the truck and motorcoach drivers and eight motorcoach passengers were fatally injured. The two occupants of the passenger vehicle and 37 motorcoach passengers received non-fatal injuries.

The motorcoach, operated by Silverado Stages Inc., was occupied by high school students and three adult chaperones who were taking a trip to Humboldt University in Arcata for a campus tour. The motorcoach had made a scheduled stop in Sacramento, where a replacement driver took over operation of the vehicle.

The information released by the NTSB is factual in nature and does not provide any analysis. Included in the docket are witness and passenger interviews, reports on various issues and photographs.
